The Albino Pygmy Corydoras (Corydoras pygmaeus 'Albino') is a rare and fascinating nano catfish with the same peaceful and social nature as its standard Pygmy Cory relatives. This unique albino variant features a soft pinkish-white body with red eyes, making it a striking addition to any small freshwater aquarium. Like all Corydoras pygmaeus, this species prefers to swim midwater in active shoals, creating an engaging display of synchronized movement.
This tank-bred variety is perfect for planted aquariums and nano setups and thrives in groups of six or more. Their gentle nature and algae-grazing habits make them an excellent choice for peaceful community tanks.
The Pygmy Corydoras species originates from slow-moving, heavily planted streams and tributaries in South America, particularly in the Madeira and Nanay River basins. They naturally inhabit areas with fine sand, leaf litter, and plenty of aquatic plants, which provide shelter and foraging opportunities.
While the Albino variant is captive-bred, it retains the same natural behaviors and habitat preferences.
The Albino Pygmy Corydoras is an omnivore and thrives on a balanced diet:
To support optimal health and breeding, a varied diet with regular small feedings is recommended.
Best Tank Mates:
✅ Other peaceful nano fish such as Ember Tetras, Celestial Pearl Danios, Chili Rasboras, and Dwarf Rasboras.
✅ Shrimp-friendly and safe with Neocaridina and Caridina shrimp.
✅ Snails and other bottom-dwellers like Otocinclus and small Loaches.
Species to Avoid:
❌ Aggressive or large fish such as Cichlids or large Barbs.
❌ Fast-moving species that may outcompete them for food.
✅ Yes! The Albino Pygmy Corydoras is shrimp-safe and coexists well with dwarf shrimp species. Baby shrimp (shrimplets) may be eaten if small enough, but adults are safe.
Breeding Albino Pygmy Corydoras follows the same process as their wild-type relatives.
Breeding is easiest in a species-only setup with plenty of live plants and fine substrate.
